Origin
Abenya is rooted in Abena, meaning “born on Tuesday,” and Peña, reflecting lineage and interdependence. Together, the name holds a simple idea: identity and direction are shaped through relationships, systems, and what we are responsible for across time.
This work is grounded in lived experience across academia, industry, and innovation ecosystems. Through tech transfer and corporate partnerships, a PhD and postdoctoral training in translational research, and building a biotech startup working across universities, industry partners, national laboratories, and federal funding systems, a consistent pattern emerged.
These systems are deeply interconnected, but not simple. They are fragmented, shaped by shifting priorities, and require a level of strategic clarity, adaptability, and resource awareness that is rarely taught but consistently necessary.
Navigating complex ecosystems, translating across sectors, and aligning fragmented resources is not instinctive and can be learned.
